We have a workshop at the foot of Mt. Ikeda in Gifu Prefecture, where we produce original clothing using the traditional Japanese fermented indigo dyeing method called "hondate sho-aizome."

Kazuya Nohara | Creative Director

Graduated from BA Fashion Design Menswear at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. During his student days, he interned at fashion brands in London. After returning to Japan, in pursuit of the essential aspects of clothing making, he learned the technique of "hondate sho-aizome" established by Koichi Okawa. Aiming to create clothing that utilizes the healing properties of the original indigo dye, he established a studio in Gifu Prefecture in 2022 and officially began operations as "Aiwayu."

 

Miki Nohara | Indigo dyer

She gained experience through her work as a clothing designer and dyeing various commissioned items using persimmon tannin dyeing. She has pursued a wide range of color expression and has proposed clothing and daily necessities that can be easily incorporated into people's lives, regardless of age or gender. In 2020, she learned the technique of indigo dyeing.She pursues the  natural brilliance of indigo and durable dyeing that does not fade.
