What is Hondate Shoai-zome?
This is an ancient Japanese indigo dyeing method that creates a dyeing liquid by re-fermenting “sukumo,” a dye made from fermented leaves of indigo plants containing blue pigment, using only “aku” (lye) extracted from wood ash of broadleaf trees.
